LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - The former Mercy Hospital is back in the spotlight again, as the building’s owner is facing new sanctions and fees related to the ongoing problems at the property.
Both the city and the property owners have been deliberating what to do with the building for years.
City Attorney Kristina Hale says last month, the city and the owner of the building, Chendo Carranco appeared in the 111th District Court, where Judge Monica Notzon ordered Carranco to pay another sanction of $2,000 due to not complying with city codes and ordinances.
Carranco was given a deadline to hire a security guard to monitor the premises around the clock.
Another hearing will take place next month.
