Zeta Drug Cartel member sentenced to life in prison

LAREDO, TX (KGNS) - A man guilty for his part in drug operations that brought tons of illegal narcotics through Laredo’s port of entry will spend the rest of his life behind bars.

Thirty-eight-year-old Juan Francisco “Kiko” Trevino Chavez was sentenced in Waco on Thursday.

Trevino Chavez is the nephew of two previous bosses for the Zeta drug cartel.

It was found that Trevino had organized the distribution of large amounts of drugs, laundered money and controlled cells of traffickers and gunmen in the Nuevo Laredo area for years.

Trevino will serve two consecutive life sentences, along with 20 years in federal prison.
