The City of Laredo has decided to file an appeal with the Supreme Court on the Plastic Bag Ordinance, but they may see some support from other Texas cities.

The City Council agreed to begin filing a petition for review with the Supreme Court after the Fourth Court of Appeals overturned Laredo's Plastic Bag Ordinance.

However, City Attorney Raul Casso says other cities in the state have similar ordinances.

They have expressed interest in joining in this appeal, possibly lending the case momentum to propel it before the Supreme Court, which has to decide whether or not to take it up.

"Then the likelihood of the Supreme Court hearing this case is very high, because it involves more than just Laredo," Casso said. "And then, also the opinion that overruled our Plastic Bag Ordinance also has a very strong dissenting opinion."

The Fourth Court of Appeals made the decision in a 2-1 vote.

The deadline to file this petition will be next week.
