This week marks National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, which celebrates the work done by telecommunications personnel in the public safety community.

Every year, 911 dispatchers are honored and recognized for taking the time in routing emergency calls to officers so they can respond quickly.

Deputy Mario Reyes of the Webb County Sheriff's Office says it's important to honor these unsung heroes: "If it wasn't for these individuals that never get seen or talked to, we wouldn't be able to get to the calls on time to save people, and we're out here honoring them because it's well-deserved."

In the event of an emergency, dispatchers will ask several questions to find out who they need to send and how many emergency personnel are needed to respond.
