Help Fight Kidney Disease by Going for a Walk

LAREDO, Texas (KGNS) - An annual walkathon to raise money for Laredo dialysis patients and their families is taking place this Sunday.

The Kidney Foundation is a local organization helping patients with kidney disease - including nutritional supplement, renal vitamins, transportation services and other services. Most members are social workers, dietitians and a few volunteers.

They help over 700 patients in eight different clinics.

"There is definitely a need," says Satellite Healthcare medical social worker Patricia Argais. "We are funded by United Way of Laredo and the City of Laredo third-party funding. We apply for grants to help our patients here locally."

The walk is taking place this Sunday from 8:00 am to 11:00 am at North Central Park. All proceeds will be split between dialysis providers in the region.
