LAREDO, TX. (KGNS) - A man accused of brutally killing two livestock animals could face additional charges.

On Monday, Mar. 11, 2024, Ricardo Segura Jr., 22, was charged with two counts of cruelty to livestock animals.

Segura is accused of killing both a pony and a donkey on two separate occasions back in February.

According to the Laredo Police Department, Segura became the primary suspect after he was seen on the property where the crime had happened before.

An officer was able to identify Segura and investigators were able to make an arrest.

“Obviously, they wanted to make sure whether or not it was him who was responsible for the deaths of these two animals,” said Investigator Joe Baeza. “They got a warrant, and they went ahead and searched the home once they got that warrant. Sure enough, they were able to link certain items that were found as hard evidence in the home with what was found at the scene with the animals that were discovered.”

The Laredo Police Department said they are currently waiting on certain test results before pressing additional charges.
