TERRELL COUNTY, Ga. (WALB/Gray News) - A recently graduated high school student in Georgia died in a car crash Monday, according to officials.

The Georgia State Patrol said troopers arrived at the scene of a single-vehicle crash around 2 a.m. on Bobby Locke Road in Terrell County.

Investigators said a white Ford F-150 was headed south on Bobby Locke Road when it left the highway while turning around a curve and went onto the east shoulder for about 260 feet.

The truck then hit a culvert and became airborne and hitting a guy wire.

A passenger in the vehicle, Vansh Patel, was ejected.

The truck continued south, still airborne, before it hit a tree with its roof. It then came to an uncontrolled stop on the driver’s side.

Officials said the driver, identified as David Mullins, was pronounced dead at the scene.

He was flown to Grady Memorial Hospital.

Mullins was a senior who had just graduated from Deerfield-Windsor High School.

The school’s head football coach, Brian McCrae, made a Facebook post addressing Mullins’ death.

“The Lord took David Mullins from us last night and none of us are ready to let him go,” he wrote in the post. “Our heart goes out to the Mullins family as well as all of us grieving the loss of this incredible young man.”

McCrae said he is also praying for Patel and his family in the post.

“We will just rally around our loved ones and live like David would want us to live,” the post said.

Coroner Michael Fowler posted to Facebook earlier this month to say Mullins had been awarded a $2,000 scholarship from the Albany Rotary Club and planned to attend the University of Georgia.

Deerfield-Windsor Head of School Allen Lowe said the school is not making a comment on Mullins’ at this time, but is “doing what they can” to support the family and students.

WALB has reached out to the Georgia State Patrol for more information on this crash.

A GoFundMe was set up for Mullins’ family. As of Tuesday, more than $28,000 of its original $5,000 have been raised for funeral expenses.
