ROOTS Recovery Center nearing 100 patients served
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Last year, 65 lives were lost to a drug overdose and so far this year, 22 people have succumbed to the dangers of drug use.
In an effort to prevent additional deaths in our community, a local detox center is helping those who are struggling with addiction.
The ROOTS Recovery Center opened its doors in February and saw its first patient on February 6, and since the center has opened, officials have assisted 83 people to date.
While the road to recovery is a difficult journey, Detoxification Director Dr. Viviana Martinez says that the detoxification process is the first step.
“Patients are with us anywhere from 10 to 15 days, and [they]might stay a little longer depending on their needs. I will share that the vast majority of our patients are opioid users and are testing positive for fentanyl, so we are seeing it in the patients that are coming seeking services at the center,” Martinez says.
Dr. Martinez adds that the center takes all forms of insurance, but they are also willing to work with individuals who might not have the ability to pay.
While the center is only open to people 18 years and older, Dr. Martinez adds that other resources in our community can help such as SCAN or Pillar.
