1 dead, 5 injured in college homecoming shooting

ALBANY, Ga. (WALB/Gray News) - One person is dead and five others, including children, are injured after a shooting at a Georgia college during its homecoming weekend.

The shooting happened Saturday at Albany State University’s East Campus in Albany, Georgia.

Dougherty County Coroner Michael Fowler identified the deceased victim as 19-year-old De’Morion Tayshawn Daniels. Police said he was not a student.

The injured victims include a 13-year-old girl from Albany who suffered a gunshot wound, a 17-year-old girl who suffered a gunshot wound, a 16-year-old girl who suffered a gunshot wound, a 20-year-old woman who was grazed by a bullet and a 19-year-old girl was injured while attempting to flee.

The injured victims were treated immediately at a triage site before being taken to the hospital, according to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation which is assisting in the investigation.

At least four people have been taken into custody but have not been charged, according to police.
