ALBANY, Ga. (WALB/Gray News) - Georgia authorities say two family members are facing charges for leaving three young children home alone.

According to Albany police, they were called to a residential area on West Broad Avenue on Easter Sunday after receiving calls about a juvenile being on the road without supervision.

Officers said they ended up finding children, ages 4 and 8 years old, along with a 9-month-old, inside a home unsupervised.

Investigators noted that the children were autistic and nonverbal.

Officers at the home said the children’s mother, 25-year-old Amia Elder, and their 66-year-old grandfather, Kenneth Elder, eventually returned.

Police said none of the children were found injured, but both Elders were arrested and charged with three counts of reckless conduct.

Authorities urged anyone with further information to contact the Criminal Investigative Bureau at 229-302-0756.
