LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo Heat (8-0-0 24 points) defeated Austin Lonestar (4-3-0 12 points) and pushed their win streak to eight after a 7-0 thrashing during their mid-week contest.

The scoring began early and often at the P-E-G Energy stadium. Adam Knutson would connect with a one-timed strike from a cross into the box that would end in the back of the net just two minutes into the match.

Lonestar would create some chances after the Heat took the lead.

In the 38th minute of the match Ellie Bokota would be caught in a 1-on-1 against a Lonestar defender but would dribble past and Bokota would find the back of the net to make it 2-0.

Towards the end of the half Laredo’s Sergio Meza would find the back of the net to give the Heat a dominating 3-0 lead by the half-time whistle.

Meza was not done as he would tack on two more in the 51st and 55th minute of the match.

The scoring would slow down for all of 20 minutes in the second half until the 85th minute when Volkan Celikkol and Todd Vromant would slot home the two final goals to complete the dominating performance.

The Gateway Cities soccer franchise now find themselves potentially a win away from locking up the Lonestar Division. With only four games remaining in the regular season and the season series against Austin Lonestar locked up the only real threat to the Heats division championship chances are the Twin City Toucans (3-2-1 10 points) and AHFC Royals (5-2-1 16 points).

The Heat will travel to Cabaniss Field to take on fifth place Corpus Christi FC (3-3-1 10 points) on Saturday at 7:45PM.
