Heat claim Lone Star Division throne in 2-0 win
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - In the Laredo Heat’s (9-1-0) return to the USL Two the Gateway Cities soccer franchise have claimed the 2025 Lone Star Division Title. The Heat accomplished it with a 2-0 victory against the Twin City Toucans (4-3-2) Wednesday night with 2 games remaining before the start of the post-season.
The Heat would put pressure in the early goings with Gael Gallegos taking a shot that would ricochet off the crossbar.
Twin Cities would not back down as they would find several chances at net with goalie Marc Bonnaire pushing away several chances for the Toucans to find the equalizer.
By the half-time whistle the Heat would be in the lead 1-0 thanks to a Gallegos goal that would find the bottom left corner of the goal.
In the second half both sides would fight back and forth for possession of the ball. That would change in the 73rd minute as Ahinga Selemani would find the back of the net to clinch the 2-0 win against the Toucans and clinch the Lone Star Conference title.
Bonnaire would keep his net empty for the third time this year earning him Man of the Match honors.
The season rolls on Tuesday when the Heat travel to The Woodlands, to take on GFI Academy on Tuesday at 7:00PM before returning home for the regular season finale against AHFC Royals on July 12th.
