Traffic stop leads to foot chase, arrest of wanted suspect in Laredo
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A traffic stop in north Laredo early Saturday morning led to a foot chase and the arrest of a man wanted on multiple active warrants, police said.
Ramiro Saavedra, 25, was arrested and charged with evading arrest and failure to identify, both Class A misdemeanors.
The incident began at approximately 4:41 a.m. on Aug. 29, when a Laredo police officer conducted a traffic stop on a black Ford Escape in the 1000 block of McPherson Avenue.
According to police, Saavedra was a passenger in the vehicle. During the stop, he allegedly gave officers false identifying information before fleeing the scene on foot.
Assisting officers responded to the area and chased Saavedra. Officers used “department-issued tools” to detain and arrest him, police said.
Following his arrest, authorities discovered Saavedra was wanted on nine active warrants out of the Webb County Sheriff’s Office. The warrants were issued after Saavedra allegedly failed to appear in court for multiple previous offenses, including assault, robbery, and burglary.
Saavedra was transported to the Webb County Jail, where he remains in custody.
