2026 Fight Fest Laredoans Showcase Young Boxing Talents

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - This weekend brought the latest edition of fight fest here in the gateway city with a number of Laredo boxers looking to take that next step in their careers and hoping to pick up wins.

We start with one of the bigger slugfests in the mid card as Alfonso Ferreyero making his professional debut in the ring. While it might have been his first official fight, the name carries some weight in the boxing circles with his dad and brother having come before him. The latest of the clan to take up the sport slugged his way to a unanimous decision on Saturday.

“It feels like I’ve got to fill some big shoes between two older men and we are ready to go. We’re ready to go the distance with anyone and everyone and knock some people out. I want to live up to that name and we’re here to win, we’re here to take over, we’re not done, Said Ferreyero.“

Another of the local fighters to take the ring was Angel Martinez in the co-main event . Making a return after a decent lay off with a special man in his corner.

“I had a year and a half lay off but I’m coming back with my dad out because he was in prison but he’s back and I’m motivated to stay active in my career, Said Martinez.”

Martinez would have his hand raised as well going to the judges scorecards taking down fellow Laredoan Juan Mata Junior in a close bout.

“I caught him with a lot of the body punches and so that helped me out a lot because he was moving a lot but once I started hitting him with those body punches he slowed down and I was able to get to him, Said Martinez.“

Finally the main event featured Jaime Jasso looking to bounce back after a tough loss in his last fight and his valley foe went toe to toe with the Laredoan for all six rounds.

“We knew he was a tough dude coming in, we knew he could, we knew he could take a shot too so it was mainly staying composed and, I could see his punches as he threw them. I’m real fast with my counters, I saw openings and I just kept taking it and my punches kept landing clean, Said Jasso.”

Triple j did enough to earn all the victory on all three judges scorecards, capping off a night he won’t soon forget.

“I get a lot of support and my support system right here in my hometown is crazy and much love to them and I’m glad they enjoyed the show tonight. I’m going right back to the gym on Monday and hopefully a big opportunity opens up and we’ll be ready to take it head on, Said Jasso.”
