High school football player dies after being shot, getting in car crash on way to hospital
PRENTISS, Miss. (WDAM/Gray News) - A high school student and football star has been identified as the victim of a late Sunday night shooting and car accident in Mississippi.
Chancellor “Chance” Daniels set foot on the Sumrall High School football field for the last time Friday night in a game against Jefferson Davis County High School.
On Sunday night, law enforcement said Daniels died as a result of injuries he sustained in Jefferson Davis County.

Police said around 11:30 p.m., shots were fired in or around an ATV park near State Route 42.
After the shooting, Daniels got into a car with an unidentified female. She drove about a mile and a half before they got into a car accident inside the Prentiss city limits.
Daniels and the female were reportedly heading to the hospital when the crash happened.
Separate agencies are investigating the incidents; the Mississippi Bureau of Investigations is handling the shooting, while Prentiss police are heading up the crash case.
In Daniels’ honor, Sumrall High School released a statement Monday morning.
“Chance was special and loved by so many. He made an impact on everyone around him, and his presence will be deeply missed. We will continue to share the memories and stories that made Chance so special, because through those memories, a piece of him will always remain with us.”
Jefferson Davis County Coroner Dedra Johnson’s office cannot confirm at this time whether Daniels’ death was the result of a gunshot wound or injuries sustained during the crash.
An autopsy is being conducted to determine Daniels’ cause of death.
There has been no word on any suspects or arrests.
A GoFundMe was set up to support Daniels’ family during their bereavement.
This investigation is ongoing.
