Laredoan musician Sophia Nance lands Austin City Limits spot

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Sophia Nance is preparing for her first festival performance at Austin City Limits Music Festival this weekend.
Nance’s mother, Thelma, said Sophia picked up piano and violin quickly as a child. When she began writing music, Thelma said she knew her daughter had a future in music.
Nance said she remembered playing the piano and imagining that she would someday perform at a festival.
The 24-year-old is part of Austin-based band LLUVII. Before that, she performed as a solo artist under the name ModernSophia, writing songs in her childhood bedroom and playing at coffee shops and restaurants in Laredo.
“I just kind of knew I was gonna keep doing it for as long as I could. I was like, this felt like something that made me, me,” Nance said.
After moving to Austin to attend the University of Texas at Austin, Nance continued performing at venues including Stubb’s and Atones. Her parents had gone to those venues when they were her age.
“I’m very thrilled for her. I’m going to be so excited to see her. I’ll probably cry, but uh it should be fun. We’ll have a good time,” Thelma Nance said.
Nance will perform alongside artists including Charli XCX, Lorde and Twenty One Pilots. Her parents and friends are expected to join an estimated 75,000 people in the crowd.
