Woman stabbed in Zapata County

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A woman is in critical condition after a stabbing in Zapata on Sunday, authorities said.

The Zapata County Sheriff’s Office said deputies responded on Sunday night to a reported stabbing in the area of Carla Street and 24th Avenue. Emergency crews took the woman to a hospital, where she was listed in critical but stable condition.

Deputies detained an adult man at the scene, Sheriff Ramon E. Montes said. Officials did not immediately release the names of those involved or say what may have led to the attack.

Montes said there is no ongoing threat to the public but asked people to avoid the area while investigators continue to process the scene. The case remains under active investigation.
