LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Councilman Dr. Tyler King said a bolt failed on a water main near International Boulevard and Shiloh Drive on Friday, Nov. 6, leaving some North Laredo residents without water overnight.

Dr. King said many residents waited nearly 16 hours for water to return.

Criticism of the response

Dr. King thanked utility crews who worked overnight but criticized the lack of updates to affected Laredoans. He said changes are needed to help the city respond faster.

“We just need a separate public utility that can work autonomously without the red tape of the city. And that’s something that I am committed to making happen,” Dr. King said.

Proposed utility board

Dr. King said the proposed board would still report to City Council, and creating it would take time.

Valve replacements in South Laredo

He added that crews were also handling planned valve replacements in South Laredo when the water main broke.
