Authorities are still investigating the death of a woman who was found dead in a rural area of Webb County.

Authorities are not saying how 29-year-old Melissa Ramirez died, but they say they are treating it as a homicide.

Family and friends of Ramirez are left mourning the loss of their loved one.

One of Melissa’s friends, Vanessa Rodriguez says she was a very good person and she did not deserve to die.

Melissa’s family released a statement saying, “"Melissa was well mannered and very humble. She was a good sister and friend. The times she spent with our family, she was always happy and we could never tell if she was angry or sad. She was a very adorable person, you could never be mad at her. She loved her children, siblings, and her mother very much. Thanks for those great memories you left in our hearts."

So far no arrests have been made and the Texas Rangers are still investigating the case.

Sheriffs investigators are looking into what may have caused a woman to lose her life in a rural part of Webb County.

Just before 3 pm on Monday deputies received a call from someone who had discovered the body of a woman out on US83 North and the Camino Colombia road.

Sheriff's deputies arrived and quickly cordoned off an area trying to collect evidence and figure out what may have caused the woman to die there.

Officials aren't releasing yet the circumstances surrounding the woman's death.

If she was an undocumented immigrant who succumbed to the heat, an accident, or if foul play may have been involved.

A sheriffs spokesperson has however confirmed that the Texas Rangers have taken over the investigation and that sheriff's officials will be cooperating in the investigation.
