Beyond the Headlines: Tecos GM talks contract negotiations, Republican county chair reflects on Trump assassination attempt & V.P. pick
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - With a full count, the season on the line, and the stakes not only at win or go home, but win or find-a-new-home, it was a game of hard ball between the Tecos and ASM Global—the company that manages Uni-Trade Stadium.
Yet the 2024 season is saved at the last minute thanks to some back-and-forth negotiations, even after some curveballs.
It started in June when an eviction notice was sent to the team demanding the Tecos vacate Uni-Trade Stadium.
In what could have been, the letter stated that for failure to sign a contract agreement for the use of the stadium, the Tecos would have had to immediately remove all personal belongings and return all keys to the stadium.
It never had to get to that point. Both parties reached a different conclusion after needing to step up to the plate. On the city’s behalf, the city manager shared his gratitude for getting a deal done.
”It’s wonderful that the Tecolotes can finish off the season, and they have a long history with the city and we appreciate having them within the community,” City Manager Joseph Neeb told us. “We love the relationship of the Dos Laredos Tecolotes and having them across the river. That relationship is very unique and very cool and we enjoy having them here.”
So, how do we get here? And in what is essentially a temporary deal, what does that mean for the future?
Tecos General Manager Cuitlahuac Rodriguez shares a little of the backroom negotiations and what the future looks like for not just the upcoming baseball season, but for the Tecos’ long-term future in Laredo, Texas.
Then, the path of a bullet changes the path of history by an inch—at most.
Not only that, but Donald J. Trump accepts his party’s nomination with a new partner by his side, Ohio Senator J.D. Vance.
Webb County Republican Chair Jose Salazar joins us to discuss the implications of Trump’s assassination attempt and a week that saw the former president formally accept his party’s nomination for president.
