Beyond the Headlines: City of Laredo, Webb County Election Day preview

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Election season will end in the only way it can: Election Day. This Tuesday, November 5, voters across Laredo, Webb County, Texas, and the nation will cast their ballots, bringing dozens of races to a formal conclusion after months—even years—of campaigning.

What’s on the Ballot for Webb County Voters:

Webb County voters will select representatives for key positions, some contested and some uncontested. They include:

  • State Judges
  • District Judges
  • Texas House Representatives

What’s on the Ballot for Laredo Voters:

City of Laredo Races

  • District 4: This open seat, previously held by Alberto Torres, has six candidates: Tannya Benavides, Osbaldo “Valdi” Guzman Jr., Rick Garza, Manfredo Salinas, Ismael Lozano, and write-in candidate Priscilla “La Gordiloca” Villarreal.
  • District 5: Incumbent Ruben Gutierrez faces challengers Jose Ovando and Jesse Perez.
  • District 7: Vanessa Perez defends her seat against Michelle Molina, with additional competition from Felipe “Flipper” Ramirez.
  • District 8: Incumbent Alyssa Cigarroa faces Horacio G. Palacios, Sergio Dorantes, and Luxsandra Guerra.

School Board Races

  • UISD Board, District 1: Incumbent Gilbert Aguilar runs against Abey Lugo, Peter Palomo, J. Salvador Pinones Jr., and Ismael Rincon.
  • District 2: Incumbent Ricardo Rodriguez is challenged by Rudy Gonzalez Jr. and Christy Jimenez Lara.
  • District 4: UISD Board President Ramiro Veliz III faces Roger Benavides.
  • District 7: Incumbent Frank Castillo is in a close race with Dianelle Martinez and Manolo Rangel.

For LISD Board, Place 4, the candidates are Alfredo Gustavo Perez, Scott Robert, and Cesar Vasquez.

Laredo College Board Races

  • Position 4: Incumbent Jorge “JD” Delgado competes against Adriana Alexander.
  • Position 5: Lizzy Newsome challenges incumbent Lupita Zepeda.

Key State and National Races

  • Texas House, District 80: Democrat Cecilia Castellano takes on Republican Don McLaughlin Jr.
  • U.S. Congress, District 28: Incumbent Henry Cuellar (D) faces Republican challenger Commander Jay Furman.
  • U.S. Senate: Republican incumbent Ted Cruz seeks a third term against Democratic challenger Colin Allred.
  • Presidential Race: Top contenders include Donald J. Trump and Kamala Harris, along with other candidates.
