LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - According to the Texas Department of State and Health Services, over 3,000 people a year are diagnosed with liver cancer.

It’s among the most common cancers in men in the state.

However, to bring awareness and prevention to the community, the Area Health Education Center (AHEC) and the Mays Cancer Center will be having a meeting to talk about liver cancer.

Executive Director for AHEC, Dr. Julie Bazan, explained what people can expect to learn.

Noting, “People can just come in and listen and be part of the conversation. Ask questions if they want more information, and of course, we have the experts on hand. What’s beautiful about this is that these are bilingual so people can receive the information in English or Spanish.“

The meeting is set to take place on Wednesday, December 4, from noon to 1 p.m. at the Webb County Community Action Agency, located at 111 Camino Nuevo Rd.
