Roots Recovery Center helps those with addiction
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A multi-million-dollar detoxification center in Laredo is preventing the number of drug overdoses in our community from increasing.
After a year of service, the Roots Recovery Center has helped roughly 308 people from ages 18-75 battle their addictions to drugs.
Some of the most common addictions in the center include heroin, fentanyl and prescription medications.
Ramses Rivera, who has struggled with heroin addiction for about 20 years, states that his addiction has led him to a life of crime. However, he has decided to turn over a new leaf.
“I have a support system; I got my mom, my sister, my kids and people who are willing to help me. I have a recovery coach named Montiel. Mr. Canales helps me a lot, Miss Jackie and Miss Martinez. Everybody treats me good here, so they give me the motivation to help fight my addiction,“ Rivera said.
Representatives with the center say they help treat patients who might have other existing medical conditions.
The average treatment lasts roughly 15 days; however, some extreme cases could last up to a month.
