Early voting begins for Webb County primary runoff elections
Early voting begins Monday, runs through Friday
WEBB COUNTY, Tex. (KGNS) - Early voting begins Monday, May 18, for the primary runoff elections in Webb County.
Runoff races feature candidates who fell short of 50% in the March primary.
Several state and federal races are on the ballot, including the Democratic primary for county judge.
In March, Jerry Garza led the four-candidate field with more than 40% of the vote. He will face Carlos “CY” Benavides III, who finished second with just under 25%.
On the Republican ballot, voters must decide between Ken Paxton and John Cornyn for the U.S. Senate.
The Webb County Elections Administrator has an important reminder. If you voted in the primary, you must stick with the same party in the runoff.
“For example, if you participated in the Republican primary, if you come and vote for the runoff, you will only be allowed to vote in the Republican primary. If you vote in the Democratic primary, in the runoff, you can only participate in the Democratic primary. For November, you’ll be able to vote for whichever party you want. But again, these are the primaries,” said Jose Luis Castillo, Webb County Elections Administrator.
Early voting runs through Friday, May 22. No weekend voting is available.
Polling sites will be open 8 a.m. to 8 p.m.
Election day is Tuesday, May 26.
