Laredo City Councilman Tyler King Completes U.S. Army Officer Training
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo City Council Member Dr. Tyler King has graduated from the U.S. Army Basic Officer Leader Course at Fort Sam Houston in San Antonio, completing the required officer training for his service as a captain in the U.S. Army Reserve Medical Corps.
King graduated Sept. 4 after several weeks of military training designed to prepare Army medical officers for leadership and service in operational environments.
The course included training in Army leadership, military operations, field medicine, physical readiness and the responsibilities of serving as an officer in the Army Medical Department.
King commissioned into the U.S. Army Reserve in January 2021 while completing his medical training. He currently serves as a family medicine physician in the Army Medical Corps.
“Serving as an Army physician is another opportunity for me to give back to the country that has given my family and me so much,” King said. “Completing BOLC was challenging, rewarding, and an experience that made me a better physician and leader. I’m especially grateful to my wife, Alejandra, and our daughters for supporting me while I was away from home completing this training.”
King is a board-certified family physician who practices medicine in Laredo. He moved to the city in 2020 to complete his family medicine residency and has continued practicing locally since completing his training.
In 2022, King was elected to represent District 6 on the Laredo City Council.
“Whether I’m taking care of a patient, serving in uniform, or working on behalf of my constituents, the responsibility is ultimately the same — to serve people well and leave our community stronger than we found it,” King said.
King will continue serving in the U.S. Army Reserve while maintaining his medical practice and fulfilling his responsibilities as a member of the Laredo City Council.
