Laredo house fire leaves 1 dead, 1 injured
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - One person died and another was injured after a fire spread to three homes on Hidden Lane, the Laredo Fire Department said.
Crews responded to a residential structure fire at 309 Hidden Lane that extended to two neighboring homes just after 3 p.m. Sept. 7. The fire has been extinguished, and crews remained on scene.
A witness, Gabriel Moreno, was riding his scooter when he saw large plumes of dark smoke. Moreno said high winds pushed the flames from the original home to two neighboring properties.
“That house was the original one that caught fire and it was on this side and the wind and everything brought it to this side. And then the other side of the house caught on fire and then it brought it to that side. So it just spread. And then he started saying, ‘hurry up, there’s my grandpa upstairs, my grandpa upstairs, my dad, my dad.’”
One man was transported with burn injuries, and another man was found dead. Officials have not released the identity of the man who died.
All three homes sustained significant fire damage. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
