LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Laredo city leaders are formally urging the federal government to unfreeze Medicaid money for Texas hospitals.

City council passed a resolution on Sept. 8 calling on the Trump administration to release the funds.

The money includes payments from the Comprehensive Hospital Increase Reimbursement Program, known as CHIRP. The program helps hospitals cover the gap between Medicaid payments and the actual cost of care.

Last week, Congressman Henry Cuellar called on the Trump administration to release nearly $10 billion in withheld Medicaid funds for Texas. Most of the withheld funds are tied to the CHIRP program.
