Laredo bridge closes to honor 9/11 anniversary
LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The Juarez-Lincoln Bridge was temporarily shut down Friday morning, Sept. 11, to honor the lives lost in the Sept. 11 attacks 25 years ago.
Bridge Two normally sees cars and buses passing through. Multiple agencies attended the event, including U.S. Customs and Border Protection, Laredo police and Laredo fire, among others.
Consulates from both Laredo and Nuevo Laredo were also in attendance as an image of unity.
“We just came in unity in remembrance of this event, and it serves as a symbol of unity between law enforcement and our commitment to taking care of our country,” said Jennifer Gutierrez, U.S. Customs and Border Protection (CBP).
The Juarez-Lincoln Bridge closed at around 7 a.m. and reopened to the public at about 8 a.m.
This is one of two times the bridge closes during the year. The other closure happens during the Abrazo Ceremony at the Washington’s Birthday Celebration Association (WBCA) festivities.
