Laredo sees drop in overdoses, no deaths reported in April or May

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - The number of overdoses and overdose deaths in Laredo has gone down compared to past years, city officials said Wednesday, June 11.

At the city’s Drug and Alcohol Commission meeting, staff said that public vending machines offering Narcan and other supplies are being used more by the public. The machines are located at the Laredo Health Department, Cigarroa Recreation Center, and Fasken Recreation Center.

In May, 12 Narcan sprays were taken from the vending machines.

Also in May, 21 overdoses were reported across the city. Here is the breakdown by zip code:

  • 78040: 5
  • 78041: 4
  • 78043: 5
  • 78045: 2
  • 78046: 5

No overdose deaths were reported in April or May. Officials said this is a big drop from the same time last year.
