LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - Fire officials say people inside tried to put out the flames themselves before crews arrived at the scene of a deadly Central Laredo fire.

A 35-year-old man was hospitalized with burns to his arms. An 82-year-old man was found dead in the debris. Two dogs also died in the fire.

In all, four homes were affected. Three were a complete loss, and a fourth suffered heat damage.

Witnesses say strong winds helped push the flames from one home to the next, turning a small fire into a fast-moving blaze.

One family said they didn’t realize their neighbor was still inside until it was too late.

Fire officials haven’t released the victim’s identity. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
