Zapata stabbing leaves woman critical, man in custody

LAREDO, Tex. (KGNS) - A woman is in critical but stable condition after a stabbing in Zapata, the Zapata County Sheriff’s Office said.

Deputies responded to a reported stabbing near Carla Street and 24th Avenue, the sheriff’s office said.

Crews took the woman to a hospital, where she is listed in critical but stable condition.

Deputies took one adult man into custody at the scene.

Zapata County Sheriff Ramon E. Montes said there is no ongoing threat to the public. He said the case remains under active investigation.

Montes asked people to avoid the area while crews work the scene.
